Smoked Sausage & Rice One-Skillet Recipe

Weeknights can get busy! With after-school and work activities, homework, getting ready for the next day, and normal household chores – the day is over before you know it!

So, you need a quick and easy meal! I’ve got you covered! You can use spicy sausage or not – totally up to you! It’s going to be a tasty dish no matter what!

This past week I made this delicious  Sausage and Rice One Skillet Dinner and it was a hit! Making everyone in just one pan is fast and simple and great for clean-up as well!

Ready In Under 30 Minutes! Simple Weeknight Recipe!

You never know when you make a new dish if it will go over well with the kids, but this one was more than welcomed. They even had seconds!

Made with Hillshire Farm’s Beef Smoked Sausage, broccoli, rice, and cheese in one skillet – you can’t go wrong! AND the best part is that it was ready in under 30 minutes – start to finish!

One of my favorite memories is going to the mall with mom when I was little. I loved seeing the Hillshire Farms lady giving out samples by the store entrance. So fun! Hillshire farms smoked sausage is really delicious!

Olive Oil + Butter – olive oil and butter together are best to sautee anything in. The butter has amazing flavor and the olive oil helps to brown.

Smoked Sausage – If you have Hillshire Farm at your store, this is my favorite! You can also use Italian sausage as well. Chicken sausage can be a simple way to cut down on the fat content. You can easily use different types of sausage.

Broccoli Florets – Cut broccoli into small bite size pieces. They’ll also cook faster.

Seasonings – This takes the flavor up a notch.

Instant Rice – You want to rice to cook fairly quickly so instant is best. You can also make Instant Pot Rice.

Shredded Cheddar Cheese – this is optional. But it gives amazing flavor!

How To Make This Smoked Sausage Recipe:

Step 1

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add butter and olive oil until melted. Add the sliced smoked sausage and cook for about 5 minutes until sausage begins to brown.

Step 2

Add the broccoli and cover. Reduce heat to low and cook about 5 minutes more – stirring occasionally.

Step 3

Add the cooked rice, garlic powder and onion salt to the skillet. Stir well.

Step 4

Add the shredded cheese – stirring well until the cheese is melted.

Enjoy!

Remove from the heat and serve warm.

Ingredients  

  • 1 tbs olive oil
  • 1 tbs butter
  • 1 lb Hillshire Farms Smoked Sausage sliced ¼-inch thick
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • cups cooked brown rice - I use minute rice to save time!
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion salt
  • ¼ tsp pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

    I love this. Just think it’s a little dry
    After adding the rice, the seasoning I thought it was extremely dry, then add the cheese just made it worse
    Ended up adding water too

    I didn’t have any rice & didn’t want to go to the store. I did;however, have a package of the broccoli cheese & rice. Worked great!

    My family loved this dish and it was so easy to make. We will certainly be making it again.
    Full disclosure, I didn’t have cheddar in the house, so I shredded up some smoked Gruyère instead. It was a tasty switch.

    Good recipe everyone like it. I used leftover basmati rice and thru in a roughly chopped onion with the sausage and then added broccoli and added 1 tsp of Better than Bouillon with 1/2 hot water and added with the broccoli then added the rice and heated for 5 mins. Turned out delicious. Will make again.

This was is a quick easy delicious recipe I added a can of diced tomatoes and a little chopped red pepper and used pre cooked minute rice it was so good my very picky granddaughter who literally hates every thing but chicken nuggets loved it served it with some homemade corn muffins now my family wants it all the time thank you ❤️😋😋

    This dish is fantastic! Quick, easy and delicious. Like some others, I used cauliflower rice. I omitted the salt and pepper and didn’t miss it. There is enough for lunch tomorrow, as well. Thanks so much for a such a great addition to the meal rotation!

    Being an old man, with tender/sore feet that cannot stand long on the tile floor of the kitchen, I cook very few dinner meals for my wife of 51 years and myself. She gets stuck with the bulk of the meal planning and almost all of the cooking. On those few occasions when I do try, (and she dares to let me try), the results are seldom remarkable, (at least not “remarkable” in a good way.}
    I tried this recipe, for the first time, for dinner this evening. My sweetheart sincerely enjoyed it, and sent copies to family near and far away. That is her highest form of compliment !!

    This was a good use for leftovers. I made it with elk summer sausage, kale instead of the broccoli, used a blend of Pepper Jack/Cheddar cheeses, and also sauteed up some onion and garlic. I think adding some black beans would be also be a great addition and will try that next time.

    I tend to worry about trying new recipes because I am not a great cook, and I have never cooked with sausage before. I tend to leave that up to my husband. He wanted to put it in some Kraft mac and cheese. I chose this recipe as an alternative, and it was not only easy, it was delicious!!
