I love pasta. Any kind of pasta, really. But, I especially love the ones that are rich and creamy and easy for me to make at home. As you may or may not already know, I try a lot of The Pioneer Woman’s recipes out in my own kitchen. I enjoy her recipes because they are easy for the home cook and usually don’t require 100 ingredients that you can’t find at your local store and very family friendly.
One of my absolutely favorite recipes of hers, that I made several times a year, is her Pasta with Tomato Cream Sauce. It is so easy to make and tastes like it was prepared in the finest Italian Restaurant. Serve it with a slice of garlic bread or Roasted Broccoli and you’ve got one tasty meal on your table in less than an hour. (I love using leftover sauce to make Homemade French Bread Pizza!)
Here’s the recipe that you MUST try out!
Pasta with Tomato Cream Sauce
2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
2 Tablespoons Butter
1 whole Medium Onion, Finely Diced
4 cloves Garlic, Minced
2 cans (15 Ounce Each) Tomato Sauce Or Marinara Sauce (I like Hunts the best)
Salt And Pepper, to taste
Dash Of Sugar (more To Taste)
1 cup Heavy Cream
Grated Parmesan Or Romano Cheese, To Taste
Fresh Basil, Chopped
1-1/2 pound Fettuccine – I also use Penne pasta and it’s equally as good!
Cook pasta according to package directions. Drain, reserving 1 cup of pasta water.
Heat butter and oil over medium heat. Add onions and garlic and saute for a minute or so. Pour in tomato sauce and add salt, pepper, and sugar to taste. Stir and cook over low heat for 25 to 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Remove from heat and stir in cream. Add cheese to taste, then check seasonings. Stir in pasta and chopped basil and serve immediately. (Thin with pasta water before adding basil if needed.)
Love the Pioneer Woman! I’m going to try this recipe later this week. My Minestrone last night was a huge flop, so I have to redeem myself with the boys!! =)
Well, this recipe will definitely redeem you. It’s a no-fail recipe – as long as you don’t let your sauce burn while it is simmering for 30mins. Keep it on a low simmer and stir often and you should be great! OH and don’t forget the fresh basil for you and Josh – it makes a HUGE difference. Not sure the kids will like it, but they might!
