Do you ever go to the mailbox each day hoping there’s some money in it from someone for something? I don’t know why I think someone might send me money just out of the blue, but I always expect it! Recently I found money that was almost as good as finding it in my mailbox – it was on my computer!
Yes! I was contacted by the www.IllinoisTreasurer.gov that allows you to search for recovered money for you, your family and friends. I thought there was no chance I’d have money I didn’t know about – but when I did the quick online search, I found that I DID have recovered money! YAY! I was so excited I started searching for other people I know to see if they had money, too!
The Illinois Treasurer is safeguarding more than $2 billion in recovered cash for IL residents to claim through its website at www.IllinoisTreasurer.gov. The program’s goal is to reconnect residents with their recovered cash and property. What’s hard to believe is that one in four IL adults who search the website discover something to claim, so you never know what you might find! It could be cash from an uncashed paycheck, a utility refund, recovered stocks or retirement accounts. Since 2012, the Illinois Treasurer’s I-Cash program has reunited rightful owners with $366 million in cash, 4.7 million stock shares, and thousands of personal items. That is pretty neat!
I am not sure exactly what I’m going to get back, but I am super excited to see what it is! If it’s under $100, I’ll probably spend it on a much needed night out with my hubby. If it’s over that – who knows! My mind says it’s FREE money but I know that if it’s much more than $100, I’ll have to do something responsible with it! haha!
Want to check to see if you have unclaimed money in Illinois? It’s easy! Just go to the I-Cash website and search for your name. If you don’t live in Illinois, check with your state Treasurer for a similar program on their website. You MIGHT just have money that you can do something fun with!
