With the holidays here, it’s a great time to remember those that are important in our lives by giving back. Here’s 6 Ways to Give Back this Holiday Season that the whole family can be involved in!
- Collect Change For Charity
A great way to give back all year long is to collect your extra change in a jar. When it’s full, cash it in, stash the money and start again. When the holidays roll around, take all the money you’ve saved and give it to your favorite charity. This is a great way to teach your kids about saving money, giving back and gets the whole family involved!
2. Operation Christmas Child
Samaritan’s Purse is a wonderful organization that gathers shoe boxes full of toys, toiletries and more to give to children around the world at Christmas time. For some of these children, it’s the only gift they’ll see all year. You can pack your own shoebox with your family or pack one virtually online. Either way, it’s a great family activity for giving back while spreading the gospel!
3. Fill A Stocking
Fill a stocking for an elderly neighbor or someone in a nursing home. I love this idea because it can spread so much joy! Fill a stocking with tea, coffee, cookies, hand scrubs – any little gifts. Give it to someone who many not have family around to show them how much they mean to you!
4. Send a Holiday Card
Send a holiday card to someone to tell them you care about them. Teachers, neighbors, mail carriers, firefighters and others in your community that make a difference – are great ideas for recipients of your kind words. This project is simple and fairly inexpensive that will pack a big punch!
5. Brown Bag Lunch
Fill brown bags with lunch items and hand them out to homeless people one Saturday with a little note from your family. Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, granola bars, fruit and water are great options to include! Don’t forget the Christmas Cookies, too!
6. Cookie Gift Box
Pack a pretty cookie box that can be picked up from any craft or grocery store with cookies you’ve baked at home or even cookies you’ve bought at the bakery, wrap with festive twine and hand them out at your local nursing home, police department or to your neighbors or even ship baked goods to family and friends. It’s a great way to show you care! Here are the best tips for how to ship baked goods simply!

For the nursing home idea, maybe do a few cookie packages that are sugar-free, and include some word search books or magazines.
