I’ve found that even if you think you’re getting all the discounts you can, there’s always one more! Check out these 5 Ways to Save Money that you might have not thought of around your home!
1. Cable. Cable TV is so expensive! Every time I open my bill, it seems to have more charges on it for something! Even if you like to watch TV a lot – there are cheaper options. Try checking into a digital antenna to get local channels and streaming options through Apple, Amazon or Netflix. There’s a ton of money to be saved when you’re not being charged for channels you’re not watching!
2. Banking. Something you may not think about – but there are many, many banks that offer FREE banking. In most cases, you can get a totally free checking account that has no monthly minimum balance requirements, free checks, free ATM cards and free online banking. Do a quick internet search for FREE banking in your town!
3. Cell Phone. Everyone has a cell phone these days and the bills can be out of this world! You pay a monthly fee for data, calling and more! But, you can cut down this cost by getting a Straight Talk Wireless plan for $45 from Walmart. Unlimited Talk, Text & Data and NO contracts. You can use the same phones you love, same networks, for half the cost! There’s even nationwide coverage on America’s largest and most dependable Networks. Keep your phone, your number and your network with the Straight Talk Bring Your Own Phone program. You pay as you go, offering flexibility in your cost! This is also the perfect option for teenagers!
4. Insurance. Shop around for auto and homeowners’ insurance before renewing your policies each year. Look up rates on the internet of other companies and compare their rates or call a local insurance rep for competing companies. Their annual premiums may well be several hundred dollars lower. You can also raise the deductibles on auto and homeowners’ insurance. Being willing to pay $500-1,000 on a claim, rather than only $100-250, can reduce annual premiums by as much as several hundred dollars each month!
5. Home heating and cooling. You can get a local electric or gas utility to come to your home for a free or low-cost home energy audit. The audit may reveal inexpensive ways to reduce home heating and cooling costs by hundreds of dollars a year. Even saving a little money each year will save you a lot long term. Make sure to also weatherproof your home. Caulk holes and cracks that let warm air escape in the winter and cold air escape in the summer. Stop in your local hardware store for more tips on how you can protect you home from the outside elements to save on utility bills.
