What a great question. It’s hard to gauge since you have no idea how many others will be there. A simple rule of thumb is to create a dish that will feed your entire crew with enough left over for a couple more people

Why is it called potluck?

Ever wonder where the term potluck comes from? It’s actually from a super old time where it was used to feed people who would show up hungry. The “luck of the pot” is what is was called to feed people whatever was on hand at the time.

What is the purpose of a potluck?

Potlucks are fun because they’re a reason to gather together and enjoy each other’s company with a wide variety of tasty foods. Having a potluck also is a simple way to hold each person accountable for bringing their own side dish as well.
